The conference offers two submission types: Abstract with full paper and extended abstract only

Submission and note

Each author may submit one abstract only.

Only the full papers presented will be considered for publication in the journals.

Papers, Posters, and Publications

The following options for publication and presentation will be offered:

  • Peer-reviewed (“academic”) papers
  • Abstract-only submissions

Peer-reviewed submissions will be allocated to oral or poster presentations, depending on the topic and the number of submissions received. Abstract-only submissions will be considered only for oral presentation.

Selected full papers will be invited to undergo substantial extension and will be recommended for consideration in special issues of Energy for Sustainable Development, Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments, Human-Centric Intelligent Systems, and Journal of Building Design and Environment.

Conference awards

Best Paper Awards

The conference will present Best Paper Awards to recognise outstanding full paper submissions.

Eligibility

To be eligible, authors must:

  • Submit a full paper to the conference
  • Attend the conference closing ceremony

Selection Process

A Best Paper Award Selection Panel will be established by the conference. Award selection will be based on:

  • Paper review evaluation by the Conference Scientific Committee and the Selection Panel
  • Oral presentation assessment by the session chairs

Outstanding Young Scholar Awards

The conference will present Outstanding Young Scholar Awards to recognise the outstanding achievements of young scholars.

Eligibility

To be eligible, candidate must:

  • Be aged 40 or under on the conference dates.
  • Self-nominate and submit a CV of no more than five pages to icdies-admin@uow.edu.au with the email subject line: Nomination for Outstanding Young Scholar Awards.
  • Attend the conference closing ceremony

Selection Process

A Selection Panel will be established by the conference. The panel will shortlist six candidates, who will be invited to give a presentation in a special conference session introducing their main achievements and the impact of their work.

Outstanding PhD Student Awards

The conference will present Outstanding PhD Student Awards to recognise the outstanding PhD students.

Eligibility

To be eligible, candidate must:

  • Be a current PhD candidate or have completed PhD within three years of the conference date.
  • Self-nominate by submitting either a three-page research proposal (for current PhD candidates) or a three-page abstract of the PhD thesis (for candidates who completed their PhD within 3 years)
  • Send the nomination to icdies-admin@uow.edu.au with the email subject line: Nomination for Outstanding PhD Student Awards.
  • Attend the conference closing ceremony

PhD Internship award

This award is sponsored by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and provides the recipient with the opportunity to undertake a one-month exchange at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a travel allowance, which covers airfares and living expenses. The conference will be held at the University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus, a modern waterfront research and technology hub in North Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia.

Our venue, the Ocean & City Rooms on Level 2 of the Central Building, set the stage for a world-class program of presentations, panels, and collaboration, framed by stunning ocean and escarpment views.

Located on Squires Way, North Wollongong, NSW 2500, the campus is just minutes from golden beaches, coastal cafés, and the Wollongong city centre. Registration notes and cancellation

  • All costs above are in AUD.
  • Early bird registration ends 15 July 2026 (Midnight AEST) and standard registration opens 16 July 2026.
  • For a paper to be included in the conference, one of the authors must register and present the paper at the conference.
  • All conference participants (authors / co-authors / non-authors) need to individually register for the conference.
  • Goods and services tax (GST) is 10% that will be added during the final payment.

Cancellation Policy:

All refund/cancellation requests must be provided in writing and received before the Early Bird. No refunds will be issued after the Early Bird. Please submit all refund/cancellation requests to Rachael Hornby via icdies-admin@uow.edu.au for consideration. There will be a cancellation fee of $100 deducted from each refund.
